Task: Modernise software platform

proles solutions ag based in Wettingen is a pioneer in the field of cloud-based business software for project and mandate-related service providers in Switzerland. The software of the same name, proles, covers all management and administration tasks in one complete solution. More than 19,000 users work with proles every day.

The software solution has been continually enhanced over the past 15 years with new features being added. Various technologies have been used and some also replaced over the course of time. The customer wanted to modernise and modularise the software platform so that new or additional functionalities could be realised in less time and innovations therefore developed faster. bbv took up the challenge and reorganised product development from a technological perspective.

Implementation: Modular solution with cutting-edge technologies

The bbv experts supported the customer in upgrading the platform to the latest .NET technology. In addition, bbv helped the development team to modularise the architecture and thus simplify maintenance and enhancements. They introduced front-end technologies and trained the development team in agile collaboration.

It was important to the product users that the dashboards could be configured by users in such a way that they provide an optimum overview and visualise the project status at any given time. The ability to customise the dashboards was an important aspect in this respect. Users can customise the interface to suit their needs by adding and adapting various charts and views (bar and pie charts), calendars, resource planning, favourite functions and the menu in the sidebar.

A flexible design was needed in order to react more quickly to changes (zooming-in/out) to the window. The display on mobile phones and tablets was optimised thanks to the use of responsive design.

The agile collaboration was based on the proven Scrum methodology. Experts at proles and bbv collaborated across locations in Switzerland and Vietnam. A working software version was available every two weeks thanks to the streamlined and iterative process. proles solutions was able to test the new version promptly and incorporate feedback directly into the development. The requested changes were implemented in the next iteration in each case. In addition, the customer’s core team was introduced to the methods of agile product development and supported in the transformation process.
The innovation project was successfully completed for proles solutions within the shortest possible time. The collaboration with bbv experts in Switzerland and the extended development team in Vietnam was a win for proles solutions and all expectations were met.

Added value for proles

  • Innovation: The switch to the latest technologies and introduction of UI/UI libraries – Gridster, ReactJS, Highchart and Daypilot – as well as API services, will allow innovations to be implemented more quickly.
  • Modernisation: The new architecture will allow additional functionalities to be developed and implemented independently.
  • Agile approach: Adopting the Scrum approach made development processes significantly faster and better.
  • Usability: proles users have more options to customise the interface to suit their needs. They can visualise their projects in such a way that they have the most important information available to them at a glance.
  • Cost-efficiency: The cost-efficient bestshoring solution fulfilled proles solutions’ strict quality requirements and helped to achieve an attractive price-performance ratio.
